Summary

Research based on nationally representative Dallas Fed survey data found generative AI present across roughly 80% of occupations and more than 40% of tasks, but most tasks had adoption below 50%. Usage was highest in management, professional and computing roles and much lower in manual and personal-service work.

Why it matters

The findings challenge simple narratives that AI has either transformed work broadly or failed to gain traction, pointing instead to uneven adoption shaped by task type and occupation.
